Why do we downgrade God?
Something that has been touching me on a deep level is the fact that so many of us seem to have a tendency to think that God is just not big enough to work in our lives. Even if we do not explicitly say it, our action show what we really believe. We don't share our lives with God, and we only seem to talk to Him, or let me rather say, ask Him for certain things. From personal experience this is either because: " I don't think it's not important enough" or "it is too late now and I'm sort of hoping for a miracle".
I completely understand that we'll never be able to comprehend the majesty that is our God, but that is exactly why we should never think something is too big or unusual for Him. We have a responsibility to remember that:
God created everything... Including time
So why do we keep thinking He is limited by something He created in the first place?
Personally, I think we forget is that:
God is currently in the past, present and future...
Something I would like to share that I think could only build our faith is an illustration from the Bible: The longest recorded direct speech from God in the Bible was recorded in the book of Job. Now the book of Job covers the story of Job having the worst day in history. He lost everything in one day. So throughout most of the book, his friends were trying to explain God to him and why this had happened to him. After a long discussion between Job and the 4 others about the suffering Job was having, God stepped in to give Job and the others a new perspective. To do this he asked Job numerous questions.
He asked him questions like:
- Job 38: 16 KJV
- I feel it needs to be noted that scientist only discovered there were springs in the see in 1977. Roughly 4 600 after God said this to Job. Another question was:
- Pay attention to the fact that it says that light moves and darkness doesn't. Also bare in mind that scientists only discovered that light moved in 1676. Roughly 4 200 years before God had already said this to Job.
God asked him these questions and more, obviously already knowing the answers. But they are the type of questions that force us to re-evaluate our lives in a positive manner. Just like Job re-evaluated his position at the end of this piece of text:
It are texts like these that remind me I have no clue, and that I'm not even close to comprehending God. But then again, I realize its probably a good thing that we can't fully understand God. It shows how much bigger than all of us He is. Tough as it might feel some days. So let's all do our best to remember who God is and trust Him with everything we are. The big and the small...
