"And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way."

– Mark 10:52 KJV
There are many more accounts of miracles like these in the Bible:
Matthew 9:27-31; 12:22; 20:30-34; Mark 10:46-52; John 9:1-7

I don't think many people have ever really thought about what happened after these ex-blind men received their sight. So with this article I would like to take a different approach when looking at these miracles.

I would like to look at the “what’s next” side of things.

In the Bible we read that some of these guys were beggars, while with others the Bible doesn't really give much detail. This being said, I believe its fair to assume they were limited in how they could function in the world at that time.

When we read about these miracles, it is so easy to just focus on the moment of happiness and hope that these men had at the time. We think about how great God is and how He provides for the faithful, but I believe we can learn from what happened next. We forget that after gaining sight for the first time ever, these guys had a big challenge in front of them. We have this perception that after receiving sight everything went on happily ever after for these guys…

I think, things were never harder for these them, but now they had Hope. They could see the world for what it truly was, and as great as gaining sight was, now they had to learn to function in this whole new world. They were beggars and life was tough and hopeless, but at least they had an "excuse" for not having hope. Their only hope at that time was that someone would give them some of their excess.

Then suddenly everything changed. Suddenly they were no longer helpless or hopeless. They had the option of staying on the ground waiting for hand-outs, or learn to survive with this newly received gift. With all the great things that come with having sight, they also suddenly received a lot of responsibility. The responsibility to use what was given to them.

We are in the same situation today. Once we were blind, but through salvation, we can see. We have the responsibility to do what Jesus said when He said we should not be like the world around us (John 15:19), but instead we should spread hope of salvation to those who don't know. we have this responsibility because now we can see the world for how it really is.

We have the responsibility to find out what this new life in Christ means. Please don't just go back to your blind lives, waiting for life to pass by. We have the ability to change the world and give hope to those who don't have it, but only if we open our eyes and use the gifts God has given us.

No matter how hard we try, our old ways will never fulfil us the way it used to, so we need to stop reminiscing about it and look to the future: Our eternal future. We now have the opportunity and responsibility to live life by the power of Jesus, and even though things might be hard at time, we can't close our eyes and pretend to be blind. We need to push through and hold on to the fact that what we have now is better than what we had before, because what we do now has eternal consequences. What we have now is the true life, not blinded by the world. - May God lead us all

If you are reading this and you are not sure what I mean by the hope of salvation, or that now we can see the world for what it truly is. Please take the time to read the page about Finding The Only Hope because it is only through Finding The Only Hope that your eyes can be opened.
